Whether you go with Blogger, LiveJournal, Vox, or another way of blogging, Here are a few next steps to finding your personal connection in the blogosphere:
Share, but anonymously. With the notable exception of Vox, if you are going to bare your soul in a blog, keep your real identity something you share only with family and friends you trust. Remember that Google never forgets, and few employers, ex-lovers, or ex-anythings are likely to forgive you.
Blog for yourself, then others. Personal blogs, like traditional diaries and journals, are a way of having a meaningful conversation with yourself first and foremost. If you don’t feel better for posting to your blog, why bother?
Respond to comments. If you’re blogging in a public way, talk with the people who have taken the time to read and comment about your posts. This is the quickest way of making the type of online connections and actual friendships every blogger values.
A picture is worth a 1,000-word post. Blogs with pictures tell a far more interesting story than those without. You don’t need an expensive digital camera and extensive photography skills—a camera-enabled cell phone and Yahoo Flickr are good enough.
